THE ADRIATIC & THE IONIAN

Two coastlines.
A sea of possibilities.

Caribbean colours, pale sand and sculpted limestone. In Salento, the sea is never just one landscape — and a change of wind opens up a different side of the peninsula.

ONE PENINSULA · TWO DISTINCT CHARACTERS

Choose your coast.
Or enjoy them both.

These are just a few of Salento’s seaside addresses. Between them lie many more bays, beaches, fishing villages and quiet stretches of coast.

WEST / THE IONIAN

Soft sand. Turquoise shallows.

Porto Cesareo, Torre Lapillo and Punta Prosciutto bring the Caribbean to mind. Around Gallipoli, sandy beaches meet rocky corners, pine-fringed shores and evenings facing the sunset.

EAST / THE ADRIATIC

White cliffs. Deep blue horizons.

From Torre dell’Orso’s sandy bay to Otranto and the dramatic coast towards Leuca, the landscape shifts between beaches, limestone ledges, sea caves and clear-water coves.

THE LOCAL SECRET

Follow the light.
Let the wind guide you.

Two nearby coastlines mean more choice. When one side is exposed, the other often offers a more sheltered place to enjoy the water. Choosing the day’s beach is part of living here.

Look towards the Ionian. With a northerly Tramontana, the Ionian coast is often the more sheltered choice: explore Porto Cesareo, Gallipoli and the beaches further south.

A local rule of thumb, not a guarantee: wind strength, swell and the orientation of each bay matter. Check the day’s marine forecast and local conditions before choosing a beach.

A FEW PLACES TO BEGIN

Find your kind
of blue.

Sandy mornings, rocky coves or a swim beside the old town. Each stretch has its own personality.

THE SOUTHERN TIP / ROCK, CAVES & OPEN SEA

Santa Maria di Leuca

At the peninsula’s southern tip, limestone headlands give way to caves and deep-blue water. The shores around Punta Ristola reveal a wilder, rockier side of Salento.

And this is only the beginning.

San Foca, Roca, Castro, Santa Cesarea Terme, Porto Badisco, Pescoluse and many more: a Salento home puts a whole coastline of discoveries within reach.
